The Macau Black Bears are back in action, and looking better than ever.
Bannered by a monster performance from World Import Anthony Tucker, the Black Bears disposed of the Formosa Dreamers, 116-110 in the University of Macau Sports Complex.
Tucker was incredible all game long, finishing with a season high 43 points on 14/24 shooting. The highlight was his marksmanship from beyond the arc, as the reigning World MVP churned out seven triples on 58% from beyond the arc.
Just as impressive though was the Dreamers’ Tevin Glass, who matched Tucker’s performance with a scintillating game as well. Playing without Center Will Artino, Glass had to do the heavy lifting, and he did damage from everywhere on the floor, en route to a season-best 43 points on 15/20 shooting.
Both teams were willing to let it fly from beyond the arc. The squads combined for 25 total triples, with the Black Bears making 14 of them.
It was a tight throughout, with no team leading by more than 6 points in the second half. The Dreamers took a five point lead into the third quarter, 56-51. That set the stage for one of the most thrilling face offs this season, as Tucker and Glass exchanged baskets left and right, swinging the pendulum towards their team with every made field goal.
The game was deadlocked at 108-all with 57 seconds left after a Glass fadeaway. But Chen Hsiao Jung fouled Nathan Yu, sending the Black Bears’ local to the free throw line where he swished both charities to give the Black Bears a two point advantage.
In the ensuing play, the Dreamers’ Lee Hsueh Lin missed a potential go-ahead triple, which was rebounded by Macau. Liu Zihao was sent to the free throw line, where he calmly sank both charities. Another desperation triple attempt from Malcolm Miller with 12 seconds left rattled out, ending the Dreamers’ hope for a road victory.
The Black Bears had impressive performances from their locals Yu and Liu, as they notched 16 points each. Mikh McKinney had a well-rounded performance of 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists though he struggled from the field. Ryan Watkins churned out a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The Dreamers’ Malcolm Miller had 29 points and 8 assists, while Chen chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds in the losing cause.
The win keeps the Black Bears at second place, as they notched their third straight win to climb to 6-2 in the standings. The Dreamers dropped their second straight to fall to 7-4.
