The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) and the Formosa Dreamers continue in unity in further developing basketball in Taiwan.
Since the Formosa Dreamers’ entry into the league, Taiwan’s thirst for more basketball action became apparent. Due to Dreamers’ newfound success, it still took two years for the ABL to recognize that the Taiwanese market was worth investing time and resources in.
In 2017, searching for the right partner to grow the sport in Taiwan, the ABL looked to the newly- established Formosa Dreamers to be the partner to develop and transform Taiwan’s basketball culture. The Formosa organization drew inspiration from John Lennon’s quote saying, “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is a reality.”
Despite coming from different backgrounds, the Dreamers’ founders shared the same passion for basketball which was perfect for the ABL’s agenda, and together, they set their goals on bringing a positive change to the Taiwanese basketball scene. The ABL quickly recognized that the Formosa Dreamers was the right fit in pursuing their common goals.
Thanks to the Formosa Dreamers’ efforts, with just two seasons in the ABL, the Formosa Dreamers have established themselves as the most popular team in Taiwan. The team’s culture of excellence and their battle through adversity have also translated to increase stadium attendance as the Dreamers have consistently almost filled up 6,600 seats available at the Changhua Stadium during their home games. Dreamers supporters flock from all over Taiwan.
As the ABL continues to grow, so does Taiwan as an emerging basketball territory. As such, the league also looks to move forward in solidarity with the Dreamers organization as they continue to work together in pursuing and achieving its shared purpose of growing the love of basketball in the region as well as the level of competition.
Dreamers, with the exclusive right to operate a basketball team in Taiwan and ABL, is willing to open the door to welcome another Taiwan-based team, the Taipei Fubon Braves, to join the ABL’s roster of teams for the upcoming season. Despite the discussion between Formosa Dreamers and ABL took longer than expected, and even misunderstandings arose, both the Dreamers and the ABL quickly came to a mutual agreement of bolstering the league’s and Dreamers’ efforts in establishing a solid basketball culture in Taiwan. ABL highly appreciates Formosa Dreamers’ great vision and selfless spirit.
Thanks to the Formosa Dreamers’ unselfish mindset, the ABL now has two teams in Taiwan. This season will surely be a testament to the strong efforts of Formosa Dreamers, Taipei Fubon Braves, and ABL in building a better basketball scene in Taiwan.
