Vietnamese basketball superstar Tam Dinh is ready to go all the way in his debut in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).
“[The] goal I want to accomplish this season [is] to make more history [in] this organization by going all the way to the finals,” Dinh said.
The 29-year-old played for three years in the Vietnamese domestic league and averaged 18.5 PPG while shooting 46% from the field.
Dinh will be joining the Saigon Heat under coach Kevin Yurkus.
The Saigon Heat celebrated their first playoff victory in franchise history last season but was ultimately eliminated by the CLS Knights Indonesia in a best-of-three quarterfinals series.
“We [Saigon Heat] are playing for our country team. I have always wanted to play for Saigon Heat for the longest time so it was pretty easy to make my decision [to sign with them],” he confirmed.
The 6’3 shooting guard mentioned that he is pumped to prove that he is capable of playing at a different level of basketball.
“I would occasionally watch [ABL’s] highlights but what makes me hyped-up for this season is to prove to some people that I can play [in] this level and have always been on this level of competition.”
Dinh said he is excited to play against Jason Brickman who he played against in several Texas tournaments.
Feet on the ground
Despite his soaring numbers, Dinh has come a long way from his humble home in Houston, Texas. In the years that he has been an athlete, he managed to make a name for himself in the basketball scene through hard work and heart.
However, in spite of all the success he has earned, the basketball star remains humble and kind to his family, friends, and fans.
“I didn’t know anything about the sport until I moved from Boston to Houston and that’s where it all began for me. My parents motivated me to play basketball but once I got older my daughter and wife pushed me [past] my limit–they are my biggest motivators.” Dinh said.
Tam Dinh is a model star athlete who keeps himself grounded in spite of his achievements. His actions inspire every young athlete who wants to follow his path.
“Work hard and play hard and remember to be hungry but be humble: and to my fans, never quit to reach your goals,” he mentioned.
