San Miguel Alab Pilipinas took care of business at home as they scored a 117-93 victory over the luckless Formosa Dreamers at the Santo Rosa Arena in Laguna, Sunday night.
Led by their prolific World Imports who both garnered huge double-doubles, Alab broke the game wide open in the fourth quarter, leading by as much as 26 points as they cruised to an easy victory.
Justin Brownlee was the AirAsia Player of the Game as he scattered 27 points in the game anchored on 5 of 8 shooting from the three-point range. Renaldo Balkman was not that far behind as he had 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Alab was only up by 13 points early in the fourth quarter when Brownlee started a big rally. He connected with a triple with 5:17 left to stretch their lead to 17 points, 99-82. He nailed another three a few minutes later to bump their lead to 22 points.
A triple from Chris Sumalinog and two free throws from Nico Javelona gave Alab their biggest lead of 26 points at 115-89.
Lawrence Domingo and Ray Parks combined for 31 in the game and Alab also got a good lift from Dondon Hontiveros and Sumalinog both chipping in 11.
Cameron Forte led Formosa with 29 points and 21 rebounds while Ronnie Aguilar chipped in 20 points and 11 rebounds. Wu Sung Wei led the fight for the Dreamers’ locals with 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the three-point range.
“Formosa, they came out and played hard,” said Brownlee after the match. “We just stuck to our game plan. Coach Jimmy (Alapag) wanted us to run and defend and that’s what we did. We hope to keep it going. I give a lot of credit to coach Jimmy because he makes us work really hard and he really prepared us. He gives us a lot of confidence.”
