Slingers star Xavier Alexander made history on Sunday, becoming the third all-time scorer in the ASEAN Basketball League with an 18-point output in Singapore’s 78-75 win over the Saigon Heat. He also put up five rebounds, three assists, and four steals, helping his squad remain undefeated in five straight games.
The X-Man surpassed ABL legend Leo Avenido in the all-time scoring list, amassing a total of 1,641 points. He is currently right behind Chris Charles (1, 726 points) and Justin Howard (2, 048 points).
“Xavier’s impact for the Slingers goes way behind just scoring,” beamed Slingers assistant and General Manager Michael Johnson. “He is our overall team leader and he sets the tone for us on the floor on both ends.”
Now on his fourth year with the Slingers, Alexander is putting up averages of 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and a career-best 9.2 assists. He even dropped 17 dimes, the most in his ABL career, in a game versus the Westports Malaysia Dragons. He is also showcasing his vastly improved 3-point arsenal this season, knocking down one triple per game on 38 percent shooting. All the while, he remains a force on the defensive end with 2.8 steals per contest.
“He is definitely a fan favorite in Singapore both on and off the floor as he has embraced living in the community and gives his time freely to give back through basketball,” Johnson went on.
The Slingers are currently 5-1, good for third in the standings.
