It was only a three-game week for the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) but the fans still witnessed a lot of outstanding individual performances.
Denied last week by Westport Malaysia’s Calvin Godfrey, Justin Howard of the Singapore Slingers followed up with a big performance in this week as he is named as the Player of the Week.
After getting a 45-point output in their home game last week, Howard helped the Slingers get a 70-62 victory over the Pilipinas MX3 Kings at the San Juan Gym. Although Howard fouled out late in the fourth quarter, Howard did enough to give his teammates a lead comfortable enough weather a late storm. He totalled 16 points, 17 rebounds, and 2 assists in their second straight away game.
The Slingers now hold a 4-2 win-loss record behind Hi-Tech Bangkok city (4-0) and Westport Malaysia Dragons (4-1)
The honorable mentions for this week are spear-headed by past winner Chris Charles who had 20 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, and 7 blocks in Hi-Tech Bangkok City’s 88-71 win over Saigon.
Lenny Daniel of the Heat also had a good stat-line in that game with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 1 blocks.
Four players also stepped up in the game between Westports Malaysia and Mono Vampire Basketball Club
Jason Brickman had a steady night doing everything again for the Dragons with 7 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and a steal while Matthew Wright took care of the scoring with 22 points while adding 2 rebounds and 2 assists as they defeated Mono Vampire 68-64.
Anthony McClain led Mono Vampire with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks while Darongpan Apiromvilaichai is the first local from his team to be an honorable mention for the Player of the Week honors with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
