Five games were on tap for the final week of eliminations in the 2016 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) season. The last time around, it was Westports Malaysia’s Jason Brickman that won the honors, now his hot-shooting teammate Matthew Wright who will take home the final Player of the Week honors.
Wright scorched hot from the three-point range in their final two games of the elimination round to lead the Dragons to the top of the standings and earn them homecourt advantage for the entire playoffs.
The Filipino-Canadian ASEAN heritage import first dropped 41 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, with a record-setting 10 threes in a 107-77 victory over defending champions Hi-Tech Bangkok City.
Wright then added 33 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, with 6 threes in a 103-86 win against the Pilipinas MX3 Kings during Filipino Heritage day in Kuala Lumpur.
Last week’s winner Brickman also continued his great performance as he notched impressive stat lines of 14 points, 5 rebounds, 21 assists (ABL record), 3 steals and 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 10 assists in their two games this week.
The other impressive individual performances include Lenny Daniel’s 35 points, 25 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block output in Saigon Heat’s 84-79 victory over the Pilipinas MX3 Kings.
In the said game, Jason Deutchman had the best outing of his ABL career with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
Singapore’s Xavier Alexander showed off in their 93-74 win over Mono Vampire as he flirted with a triple double with 28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals.
Singapore’s Justin Howard closed the regular season with 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 8 assists in their 100-73 victory over the Heat where David Arnold also showed off with 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
