The Singapore Slingers have won four games in a row and much to do about their early success is the stellar play of their imports. Jerran Young, Xavier Alexander, and John Fields are producing solid numbers for Slingers, who are currently 4-1, good for third in the standings.
But aside from Singapore’s reinforcements, the consistent performances of their locals should also be worth mentioning. Developing local talent has always been at the forefront of Singapore’s thrust in the ASEAN Basketball League. And in Singapore’s 99-77 victory over the Wolf Warriors last Sunday, they got a huge boost off the bench from Larry Liew who scored 18 points, all coming from beyond the arc, in just 22 minutes of action.
The fourth-year guard’s hot shooting earned him the ABL Player of the Week nod, the first local player to be given the distinction this season. He’s putting up career numbers from the 3-point line this year, knocking down 2.5 triples per game on a very efficient 50 percent shooting clip.
As the Slingers continue to hit their stride this season, local standout Larry Liew will be among the vital cogs in their quest for an ABL title.
