The Formosa Dreamers stay undefeated in the ninth season of the ABL as they outlasted the new-look Mono Vampire Basketball Club, 71-66, Sunday afternoon at the Changhua Stadium.
It was a tight match with the visiting team holding a five-point lead, 54-59, heading into the final quarter. Local Dreamer Kenneth Chien made key baskets for his team as he nailed a triple with 3:14 remaining in the game to cut their deficit to a single points, 63-62.
Will Artino then scored on a layup with 1:48 left to give Formosa a 66-64 advantage. However, Mono Vampire’s new import Chris Charles quickly tied the proceedings on the nest play with his own basket in the shaded area.
At the most crucial junction of the match, it was another local who stepped up for Formosa in Lee Hsueh Lin as he stepped up to make his lone basket of the game to put them ahead 68-66. Free throws from Wu Sung Wei and Chien sealed the deal for the Dreamers.
Artino led Formosa with 26 points and 19 rebounds while Malcolm Miller amost had a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Tevin Glass fell flat after his 26-point output against Hong Kong Eastern as he only has 6 points on 2 of 16 shooting from the field, 20 points less than his performance in their last game.
Chien provided the local scoring punch for the Dreamers with 13 points on 3 of 6 shooting from deep.
Charles made a good account of himself in his first game wearing orange with 19 points, 22 rebounds, and six blocks, providing Mono Vampire the interior presence they badly needed. The problem for the Thai squad was that two of their main gunners did not shoot well from the field. Mike Singletary had 24 points but it took him 26 attempts to get there while Moses Morgan had 7 markers of 3 of 13 shooting.
Mono Vampire continues their road tour against the CLS Knights Indonesia on December 12 before they face off against the Dreamers on December 15 in Bangkok.
