The Westports Malaysia Dragons have confirmed that 9-year ABL veteran Loh Shee Fai will be included in their roster for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.
Loh is one of only a handful of active players who have been in the ASEAN Basketball League since the very beginning. The 6’4″ forward recalls that the first season was “very competitive” due to team’s sending in their best local players.
Loh would be the first to admit that he did not foresee that the ABL would still be here today. Loh stated: “I just [thought] that maybe after a few years the league would stop.”
9 years later, the now 30-year-old has noticed that the league has become even more competitive as “other teams [has started] to look for better locals and imports.”
With years of experience under his belt, the ABL champion is aware of what his role will be and what he needs to do: “For me, I don’t mind [coming] out from the bench as a role player. As long as my team is winning.” Loh said. “This coming season, I [would] like to share my experiences with the young players. Hopefully [I] can help them grow up fast.”
