The Singapore Slingers have announced the return of Leon Kwek to their roster for the 2019-2020 ABL season. Kwek was absent last season due to his National Service commitments.
The signing was first announced by the Slingers through their official website and social media accounts last September 20 along with news of the re-signings of Jun Yuan Lim, Lavin Raj, and Tay Ding Loon.
The 3-year veteran Leon Kwek last appeared in an ABL game in March of 2018. His most productive season was during the 2016-2017 campaign as he averaged 10.6 points per game while playing 28 minutes per outing.
Despite being away from the league for more than a year, Leon Kwek assured that he is still aware of what is going on with the ASEAN Basketball League.
“Personally, I was still following the league [even] though I wasn’t playing,” Kwek said. “So definitely I won’t be foreign with the players of the other teams. [I’m] definitely excited to be a part of the league once again.”
Regarding Kwek’s signing and expected role, Slingers General Manager Michael Johnson stated: “We are happy to welcome Leon back. He has been out of the program for over 12 months so we will have to see how he fits back into the rotation…Leon will be a major player with the Singapore [National Team] for the SEA Games so this will also limit his pre-season build-up with the Slingers.”
Kwek also stated that he has “added more skills” to his arsenal during the past year.
“I will go out there and play my heart out for the fans,” added Kwek.
