It’s time for round two of the Taiwan Tussle, as the Taipei Fubon Braves tangle with the Formosa Dreamers in ABL action.
Gametime is set for 3:00 PM GMT+8 at the Changhua Stadium, Taiwan.
The first time these two squads met, it was the Braves that was able to hack out a win over the Dreamers, 90-81. Now the Dreamers have a chance to respond and build on their first victory of the season in their previous contest. However, the team will have a lot of new pieces to integrate, as they’ve made wholesale changes to their imports, as well as new additions to their locals.
The Dreamers may finally be in the win column, but they are definitely not going to rest on their laurels. In comes a familiar face in Anthony Tucker, who was the World MVP in the ABL just two years ago, as well as Jordan Tolbert, making his ABL debut. Tucker is a proven commodity, though he’ll be trying to shake off the rust after a series of injuries sidelined him.
It’s a good thing then that the Dreamers still have World Import Jerran Young, who reminded everyone how terrific he is. He went the distance in 40 minutes of action, and produced monster numbers of 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. One of the most athletic high flyers in the league, Young is starting to round out his game as he becomes more comfortable with his new teammates.
The Braves are also dealing with their own issues as well, particularly the absence of Lin Chi Chieh due to injury. The Braves suffered a bad loss to the Macau Wolf Warriors in their previous match, and are determined to right the ship and avoid back to back losses.
The Braves tried to rally back in the final canto, but their offense dried up while the Wolf Warriors caught fire. In a game that many expected the Braves to take care of easily, they succumbed to a desperate Wolf Warriors squad and lost, 88-83.
Though the Braves dropped the contest, OJ Mayo showed that he’s still able to compete at a high level. His solid numbers of 25 points and 5 three-pointers made were what kept the Braves within striking distance down the stretch.
Unfortunately for Fubon, they will be missing the services of legend Lin Chih Chieh, as an apparent foot injury will be sidelining the national player. It’s a disappointing development, particularly as the veteran has been brilliant all season long.
