The Formosa Dreamers gave it their all against the defending champions but fell short, losing 93-91.
Marcus Elliott (31 points) and Tyler Lamb (29 points) provided the main firepower for the visiting Hong Kong Eastern squad as they also combined for 8 three-pointers.
The Formosa Dreamers went off to a great start with Cameron Forte going 10-10 perfect from field in the first half. His efforts alone was able to keep the Dreamers on par with Hong Kong Eastern and the two teams were knotted at halftime, 46-46.
Eastern came out of the locker room on fire and rushed out to a 14-2 run sparked by Tyler Lamb. However, some clock malfunctions on the court seemed to have cooled the visitors down and the Dreamers once again made a run to close into within 69-67 at the end of the third quarter.
Ronnie Aguilar scored 8 of his 20 points in the final quarter and clawed the dreamers back to tie the game midway through. Back-to-back timely three pointers by Hong Kong National Team player Adam Xu were able to keep the Dreamers from taking the lead.
With a little over a minute left, Marcus Elliott would rain down the final dagger on the Dreamers with a cold blooded three-pointer to put the score up 92-88.
The Dreamers would get one more chance at a miracle with 0.5 seconds left on the clock down 93-91, but Kenny Chien’s shot clanged out leaving the upset bid unfulfilled.
Cameron Forte ended up with 31 points and 12 rebounds and got support from Wu Sung Wei who had 15 points on 4 three-pointers. It was not enough to counter the Hong Kong Eastern three-headed monster of Lamb, Elliott, and Christian Standhardinger. While Lamb and Elliott made their impact from outside, Standhardinger contributed with 16 points and 10 rebounds down low.
