The CLS Knights played the role of spoilers as they defeated the Westports Malaysia Dragons, 87-68, on Wednesday.
The victory gave the Knights its first back-to-back wins for the season while also eliminating the Dragons from playoff contention.
Freddie Lish played like a man possessed by nearly notching a triple-double with 28 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists. The Heritage Import was also efficient on the floor, shooting 48 percent, while committing just one turnover in 32 minutes of action.
The duo of Shane Edwards and Brian Williams also played a big factor in the Knights’ stunning win. Williams only had 11 points but was a beast on the boards with 22. Edwards meanwhile also had a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds.
The Knights raced to a 24-8 opening quarter and never looked back. The Dragons never led and fell behind as much as 30 points in the lopsided contest.
The Dragons’ poor shooting led to their downfall after they went 30 percent from the field. Chris Eversley put up 23 points but he needed 22 shots. Joshua Munzon similarly had a poor shooting night after scoring 19 points on 6-for-20 shooting. As a team, the Dragons shot blanks from downtown, attempting 20 three-pointers, but knocking down only 2 of them.
With their playoff lives hanging on the balance, the Dragons were simply on the wrong end of a breakout game for the Knights. They currently hold a 5-12 record with five games left in their season.
The Knights on the other hand, simply want to end their maiden season on a strong note. The will face San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the Philippines for their last two games.
