After a week-long break, the Zhuhai Wolf Warriors are raring to get back in action. However they will have to do so against a San Miguel Alab Pilipinas squad eager to bounce back from a rare defeat. Tipoff begins 8PM local time at the Zhuhai Jinan Univeristy in Guangdong, China.
Fresh from suffering another loss at the hands of Mono Vampire, the Wolf Warriors are mired at the bottom of the ABL standings with a 2-15 card. The Wolf Warriors can still make a playoff run, but they’ll need to get things going now. A win against the defending champions will go a long way in achieving that.
The Wolf Warriors came into the game with a ton of confidence, as they had picked up a victory against Mono Vampire heading into this contest. However with Romeo Travis joining their opponents, the Wolf Warriors were unable to go back to back wins, falling 113-92. Mono Vampire’s depth overwhelmed the Wolf Warriors, and that has been a problem all season long.
One of the bright spots for the Wolf Warriors was the stellar play once again of Wolf Import Mike Taylor. After a career high scoring performance in their previous win against the same squad, Taylor was unable to tow his team to back to back victories despite having an excellent performance with 37 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals.
On top of the standings on the other hand is San Miguel Alab Pilipinas with a 13-3 slate. Their seven game winning streak was snapped at the hands of Hong Kong Eastern, and they’ll definitely be determined to get back on the winning track.
Despite missing key player PJ Ramos, Sam Miguel Alab Pilipinas held tough against the tough Hong Kong Eastern squad. However they were simply overwhelmed by the presence in the paint of Sam Deguara, who grabbed 31 rebounds. As a result, Alab fell to Hong Kong, 88-83 snapping their seven game winning streak. However it’s a credit to Alab that they were still able to hang around.
Playing without his usual running mate PJ Ramos, Renaldo Balkman had the defense geared towards slowing him down in every possession. So while Balkman was still able to finish with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, Balkman shot 5/18 from the field and failed to cover for Ramos’ absence.
Alab Pilipinas felt the absence of big man PJ Ramos, especially against Hong Kong and their giant in the middle Sam Deguara. The double-double machine of Alab Pilipinas has been a pillar of strength for the squad, and because of food poisoning, he was unable to go.
Will Ramos return in time to help out San Miguel Alab Pilipinas despite the quick turnaround, or can the Wolf Warriors get one over the defending champs?
