The Macau Black Bears look to defend home court as they go up against the Wolf Warriors, who are still searching for win number one in their debut season.
The Wolf Warriors lost their season-opener against a veteran team in Hong Kong Eastern, 75-107, last Friday. The team from China debuted at the Doumen Gymnasium in Zhuhai but was caught flat-footed against the 2016-2017 ABL champions.
Eddy Curry led the team with 18 points and 16 rebounds in the loss while Mario Wuysang chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds. Being the newest ABL team, the Wolf Warriors are still trying to figure out what kind of team they are. Fortunately, they have reliable veterans who can steer them to the right directions.
The Black Bears, on the other hand, opened their season with a resounding 106-100 victory over last year’s finalists Mono Vampire Basketball Club. Ryan Watkins was a man amongst boys as he tallied 29 points and 23 rebounds. He was a force in the shaded lane and could not be stopped by the opposing team. Last year’s World Import MVP Anthony Tucker likewise had a fantastic start to the season with his line of 28 points and 11 assists. With Watkins manning the paint, controlled his team’s offense. After losing in the semis last season, you can be sure that Tucker wants a better finish this time around.
Can the Black Bears make it two in a row or will the Wolf Warriors get their first win of the season?
Tipoff is at 8:00 PM at the University of Macau Sports Complex.
