The Wolf Warriors would want nothing more than to get the first win of their debut season. After suffering two disappointing losses on their home floor, they look to turn things around. However, they’re up for a daunting task when they go head-to-head with the reinvigorated Formosa Dreamers.
The Warriors and Dreamers take center stage on Saturday at the Douemen Gymnasium in Zhuhai.
The Wolf Warriors suffered a 32-point loss in their season opener to Hong Kong Eastern and then lost by 39 points against the Macau Black Bears.
Despite another setback, Deshawn Mitchell bounced back from his subpar opening game performance to come up big for the Wolf Warriors with 26 points vs the Black Bears. He showed flashes of brilliance, particularly on the offensive end, which can bode well for the Wolf Warriors moving forward. Chen Cai meanwhile shot an efficient 8-for-10 shooting clip en route to a 21-point game. Eddy Curry battled through foul trouble to end up with just 19 points and five rebounds.
On the other hand, the Dreamers continue to turn heads this season, as they took care of Hong Kong Eastern on the road, 82-80, on Wednesday. With the game tied at 79 points apiece, Miller’s clutch 3-pointer with eight seconds left gave the Dreamers the lead for good. Arguably most telling stat between the Dreamers and Eastern was the turnovers. The Dreamers forced a veteran squad like Hong Kong to 21 miscues which led to 26 points off of turnovers.
One of the matchups to look forward to in Saturday’s game is between Formosa’s Tevin Glass and Wolf Warriors’ Eddy Curry. After finishing just 19 points and five rebounds in limited minutes due to fouls, Curry will be raring to come back strong for his team. On the other side, Tevin Glass’ consistent play is a huge reason for the Dreamers’ hot start to the season. He is a force down low and can easily put up a double-double.
With already two wins under their belt, the Dreamers have already eclipsed last season’s 1-19 finish. Can they make it three straight or will the Wolf Warriors finally get a taste of victory
