The Westports Malaysia Dragons fight for their Playoff lives, as they take on the hottest team in the ABL, the red hot San Miguel Alab Pilipinas.
The Dragons Den at the MABA Stadium will host the visiting Alab Pilipinas squad 2:30PM, local time.
The Dragons were able to arrest a three game losing skid with their 95-92 overtime victory against the Formosa Dreamers last week. As a result, they still have a chance to make it to the Playoffs as they trail the Saigon Heat at 7th place in the standings.
The Dragons ran into a determined Formosa Dreamers squad, that threatened to pull the rug from under them and end their losing streak. But in the end, big shots from Eversley and Wong Yi Hou were enough for the Dragons to pick up the tough win on the road.
It was a rousing return for former Dragons import Chris Eversley. It’s like he never left, as he put up 38 points in the overtime win against the Dreamers. It remains to be seen if he’ll be able to build on that impressive debut, but the Dragons must be relieved to have him back.
Standing in their way is San Miguel Alab Pilipinas, currently the hottest team in the ABL with 8 straight victories. The combination of Justin Brownlee, Renaldo Balkman as well as a rejuvenated reigning Local MVP Ray Parks JR has proven to be tough during this winning streak.
San Miguel Alab Pilpinas also won their previous match against the Dreamers in the Philippines, grabbing their eight straight win with a 117-93 win. They simply overwhelmed the 9th ranked squad, en route to the 24 point victory. Key to their win was the red hot shooting, as they made 16 triples in the convincing win.
Alab Pilipinas World Import Brownlee was big time once again in the easy victory against the Dreamers. He led his squad with a double-double performance of 27 points and 13 rebounds, while also being everywhere on the defensive end for Alab Pilipinas.
Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman had sterling debuts in the ABL, and did so in their first win against the Dragons, 90-79. The two hardly had any time to get acclimated to Coach Jimmy Alapag’s system, but it didn’t matter as the two talented players led the team to a victory. Can the Dragons get their revenge, or will San Miguel Alab Pilipinas continue their rise to the top of the ABL standings?
