Two struggling teams square off at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur in the hopes of climbing out of the lower half of the standings as the ABL playoffs draw near.
The reeling Westports Malaysia Dragons have lost five straight ball games and need rack up wins as soon as possible. They are currently in eighth place with a 5-8 record.
The Dragons, despite their best efforts, suffered back-to-back losses against the BTN CLS Knights Indonesia. They couldn’t stop the red hot Knights’ win streak, losing one at home and one away. World Import Chris Eversley only had 11 points for Malaysia in the first meeting against the Knights but bounced back 22 points in their second. Unfortunately, it was not enough to throw off the streaking Knights.
One of the Dragon reinforcements who needs to step up big time is center Nnanna Egwu who mustered just eight points and four rebounds in the latest loss to Indonesia. He played the entire game but hardly had any impact. Though he is not a focal point in the Malaysia offense, he still has to do his job on the glass
The Dragons look to defend home court against the Macau Black Bears who are nursing a two-game skid. Macau is one step ahead in the standings against Malaysia, sitting in seventh place with a 7-7 card.
The Black Bears lost two close games against the Formosa Dreamers and Hong Kong Eastern. In their last defeat, they nearly pulled off the comeback off the season. They stared at a 16-point deficit early in the fourth quarter against Eastern but still managed to get at least within an earshot of victory.
The one guy that the Black Bears will surely rely on to carry their them to victory is none other than reigning World Import MVP Anthony Tucker. The offensive maestro currently leads the league in scoring with 26.3 points per game.
Both the Dragons and Black Bears want to get back on the win column as soon as possible. Whose losing streak will end this Sunday?
