The Formosa Dreamers will look to improve their season record as they take a two-game home stand this weekend.
They first face Tanduay Alab Pilipinas on Saturday, in their home debut at the Changhua Stadium in Changhua City, then host the defending champions Hong Kong Eastern Basketball team on Sunday.
The Dreamers are coming off their first franchise victory when they took down the Saigon Heat, 80-75. World Import Lenny Daniel, who happened to be a former Heat, notched 22 points and 19 rebounds. Yang Tian You fired away 15 points, including three triples.
It was an inspiring win for the Dreamers as they were down by as much as 15 points before stealing the win on the road. Daniel put the game away when he made two free throws with 2.2 seconds left to settle the final score.
As Formosa finally notched their first win, Tanduay Alab Pilipinas is looking for theirs. Last year’s semifinalist has now fallen into a 0-3 hole.
The Philippine team had been through another heartbreaker at the hands of the Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team, 99-96. Just like their season opener, Alab was in a close contest against the defending champs.
Alab came out with a sense of urgency, hungry for their first win. They forced Hong Kong Eastern into eight turnovers all in the first quarter alone. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam in the end, suffering their third straight defeat.
The ending to the game was similar to their first meeting at the Philippines’ Mall of Asia Arena during the opening weekend of the ABL. Josh Uribztondo had an opportunity to tie the game with a triple, but just to their first matchup, the Fireball simply couldn’t get the crucial triple to fall as time expired.
Can Alab finally get their first win of the season or will the home team continue their winning ways?
