The Singapore Slingers hope to continue the momentum of their three-game winning streak as they play hosts to the visiting Wolf Warriors this Sunday at the OCBC Arena.
After losing their first game, the Slingers have won three straight for a 3-1 record. They’re fresh from an impressive 99-88 victory over the formidable Macau Black Bears where they got off to a hot start and never relented.
John Fields poured in 32 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in Singapore’s win. Even more impressive, he missed only three shots for a 15-for-18 shooting clip. After four games, Fields leads his team in points and rebounds.
The Wolf Warriors, on the other hand, are still looking for their first win after six games. The team from China nearly got their first taste of victory but fell victims to a fourth quarter surge from the Westports Malaysia Dragons.
They held a 13-point lead a minute into the final period. Unfortunately, they could not hold as Malaysia’s Chris Eversley caught fire in the endgame. Chen Cai fired away 20 points in a losing effort despite battling through foul trouble.
The Wolf Warriors will have their hands full not just against Fields, but as well as Singapore’s other potent weapons Xavier Alexander, Jarren Young, and Delvin Goh. They need a big game from Cai, who is their leading scorer with almost 20 points per contest, and also from World Imports Eric Tisby, Mike Bell, and Eddy Curry.
Can the Slingers make it four in a row or will the Wolf Warriors finally get their first win of the season?
