It will be another edition of the Causeway Rivalry as the Westports Malaysia Dragons and Singapore Slingers lock horns this Sunday at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
In their first meeting, the Slingers managed to pull out a 94-85 win on the road. Xavier Alexander tallied 33 points while adding 5 assists and 2 steals. Chris Charles worked hand-in-hand with Alexander and ended up with a double-double performance of 25 points and 13 rebounds.
It was a second half push that gave the Slingers edge over the Dragons. Down by 8 points at halftime, the Slingers picked it up in the last two quarters.
Alexander’s overall production will again be a key factor when the Slingers take on the Dragons. In his third year in the ABL, Alexander is playing phenomenal basketball. He’s averaging more points this season with 23.3 a night and certainly making his teammates better with his increased assists averages of 7.8.
The Dragons meanwhile failed to bounce back after their setback against the Slingers. Last Thursday, they surrendered a 96-79 decision against the Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club.
Joshua Munzon put up 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals and AJ West added 19 points and 7 rebounds. Despite the efforts of Munzon and West, Marcus Marshall’s contribution was sorely missed. The explosive scorer only had 11 points on 2 of 13 shooting from the field.
Marcus Marshall is the number one scorer in the league with 27 points a game. He can explode for a huge game but unfortunately, he can also have a quiet one. The Dragons will have to expect more from Marshall if they want to win over their rivals.
