The Singapore Slingers look to own their season series against the Saigon Heat this Sunday at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
The Slingers, who boast a 9-7 record, have won their last two meetings against the visiting 10-7 Heat. They first earned a 78-75 win in Vietnam then an 87-80 decision in Singapore.
However, the Slingers have lost three of their last five games, including an 87-84 defeat at the hands of the new-look Mono Vampire Basketball Club. Xavier Alexander tied his season-high of 29 points in the loss to Thailand. Unfortunately, his four assists in that game happened to be a season-low. The X-Man is putting up 21.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.4 assists for his team this season. You can expect another big game from him as he faces a familiar foe in the form of the Saigon Heat.
More than their 0-2 season series against the Slingers, the Heat have other worries as they’ve lost their last three contests. The last defeat was a bitter pill to swallow after being blown out by San Miguel Alab Pilipinas.
Chris Dierker ended up as Saigon’s leading scorer versus the defending champions with 20 points. Despite the offensive production from their local standout, the Heat had trouble with their World Imports. Trevon Hughes and Murphy Burnatowski combined for 35 points and shot a combined 9-for-28 from the floor. De Angelo Hamilton was reinserted into the lineup to replace the injured Kyle Barone, but his 15 points and eight rebounds were not enough.
Can the Slingers establish their dominance or will the Heat finally score a win at the OCBC Arena?
