The red hot Singapore Slingers currently hold the longest winning streak this season with five straight wins. They go for number six this Friday versus Hong Kong Eastern at the OCBC Arena.
In Singapore’s latest win over the Saigon Heat, Xavier Alexander made history, becoming the third all-time scorer in league history, as he scored 18 points in the 78-75 victory. The Slingers did just enough to avert what could have been a massive collapse in the last two minutes. They held a 10-point edge but saw their lead evaporate in the blink of an eye. Fortunately, they made enough cushion in the endgame to seal the win.
Alexander, who is in his fourth year with the Slingers, is putting up 20.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and a career-high 9.2 assists. He is the motor that keeps Singapore humming and clicking on all cylinders. As long as Alexander continues to fill up the stat sheet, it’ll be hard to slow down the Slingers.
Hong Kong is back in action after a two-week break. Eastern currently have a 3-4 record and are coming off a 71-81 loss against the Formosa Dreamers last December 8. Eastern committed a total of 18 turnovers which hampered their offensive rhythm and execution against the Dreamers.
Looking to bounce back are Eric Ferguson and Marcus Elliott. They combined for 36 points versus Formosa but they were also responsible for 12 of the 18 turnovers in the loss. The two ball handlers will have to take care of the basketball against the impenetrable defense of Singapore.
The streaking Slingers go for sixth straight while Eastern will try do their best to slow them down.
