League leaders San Miguel Alab Pilipinas and Formosa Dreamers lock horns this Friday at Sta. Rosa Multi Purpose Sports Complex in Laguna, Philippines.
The Philippines won back-to-back games over the CLS Knights to kick of its title defense. After dominating the Knights in their season opener, Alab was pushed to overtime the next game. It was an early test for the defending champions but they passed with flying colors.
Much to do about the Alab’s success is Renaldo Balkman who currently leads the league in scoring with 34.5 points per game. Aside from his stellar offensive production, he remains consistent on the defensive end with 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. It’ll be interesting to see if Balkman can stay hot against the defense of the Dreamers.
The Dreamers, on the other hand, are coming off their first loss of the season. After winning their first six games, they met a roadblock in the form of the Mono Vampire Basketball Club.
Malcolm Miller scored 27 points but lacked support from the rest of the Dreamers. Will Artino logged in just 16 minutes after suffering from food poisoning while Tevin Glass struggled from the field for just seven points on a woeful 1-for-11 shooting.
Despite tasting defeat for the first time, the Formosa Dreamers remain strong contenders. Their battle against the defending champions will be a good gauge where they stand this early in the season.
Alab hopes to remain perfect while the Dreamers are looking to get back on track.
