The Macau Black Bears will be gunning for their third straight win at the expense of the Saigon Heat this Sunday at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.
The team from Macau are coming in as the hottest team in the league, highlighted by their dominant win over the Wolf Warriors. They shot the lights out and hit an ABL record 19 made triples en route to a 135-96 win.
Ryan Watkins put up gaudy numbers of 41 points and 18 rebounds for Macau’s second straight win. He was efficient all night, going 18-for-19 from the field. He also worked on the defensive end to come up with four steals. Through two games, he’s leading the league in points with 35.0 a game and rebounds with 20.5.
The Heat meanwhile are fresh from a victory themselves after Justin Young delivered the game-winning basket. The local standout hit a tough shot with 3.2 seconds left to propel the Heat to an 82-80 opening day win against the CLS Knights.
Trevon Hughes provided the groundwork with 29 points, showcasing his incredible shot-making ability. He fouled out in the closing moments, but Young was there to provide the clutch basket.
As Saigon and Macau lock horns, the point guard battle between Anthony Tucker Trevon Hughes will surely be an interesting one. Both are potent scorers who like to get their buckets in a variety of ways. Hughes attacks the basket relentlessly but he’s also proven that he has a stroke from the outside. He made six triples vs CLS and a number of them with a hand on his face.
Tucker likewise gets to the cup with ease. He’s a crafty playmaker with a deadly shot from the outside, highlighted by his 4.0 makes from downtown in his first two games. He doesn’t rebound the ball that much compared to last year but that’s primarily because of the addition of Ryan Watkins.
You can surely expect a ton of scoring and great playmaking from both Tucker and Hughes.
The Black Bears hope to make it three in a row this Sunday but the Heat are determined to defend home court.
