In their last meeting, Saigon Heat scored their biggest win of the season as they dealt Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team their first defeat. It was a 121-115 win for the Heat in the game where they made 18 of 39 three-point shots and were powered by the individual brilliance of Michael Williams who put the entire league on notice with 39 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists.
The problem for Saigon is that after that win and another big one against Chong Son Kung Fu, they have since lost their last three games as they are now stuck at the sixth spot. They dropped games to Westports Malaysia, Mono Vampire, and San Miguel Alab Pilipinas and have lost all the confidence they built during their two-game explosion.
Saigon needs to rediscover their old fire as they take on the defending champions again as Hong Kong Eastern is eager to avenge their lone loss and also want to add on to their lead ahead of the standings.
One of the key matchups in this game will be between Akeem Scott of Saigon and Marcus Elliott of Hong Kong Eastern. These two guard World Imports are two of the best in the league with Scott as the better scorer and Elliott the better all-around player.
Scott is one of the top scorers in the league with 26.7 points per game while adding 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. However, Elliott numbers are even better as he’s averaging close to a triple-double with 20.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per contest.
Their Heritage Imports will also be in for a bruising matchup with Christian Standhardinger taking on Moses Morgan. Although Standhardinger has the better numbers at 24.4 points and 11.5 rebounds, Morgan is not too far behind with 19.2 points and 9.2 rebounds.
With both these matchups possibly canceling each other out, there’s a lot of pressure on the other guys in the team to be the difference. Saigon is hoping that David Arnold and Williams both break out of their three-game funk while Hong Kong Eastern are expecting another hot shooting night from Lee Ki and Lau Tsz Lai who combined for 9 threes in their win against the CLS Knights Indonesia.
