Only one team remains undefeated in the ABL as the Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club have kept their record perfect to start the season. Standing in their way of keeping that streak going will be the Saigon Heat.
The two clash on Saturday, January 13, at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.
Chong Son defeated the CLS Knights, 86-83, to earn their fourth win in as many games. They were down late in the fourth period, but a late rally powered them to a road victory. New-recruit Mikh McKinney had solid debut of 16 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals.
Chong Son will be up against the giant slayers Saigon Heat. The Vietnam squad took down the mighty Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team and handed them their first loss of the season in an exciting game.
The Heat had a historic night against the defending champions. They were on fire from rainbow country, hitting a record 18 three-pointers. They also set a new single-game scoring record with 121 points. As a team, they shot an amazing 51 percent from the field, including 46 percent from downtown.
Michael Williams has turned out to be a revelation for the Heat. The Filipino-American went into overdrive in the Heat’s 121-115 win over Hong Kong. He ended up with 39 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists.
The matchup of Williams and McKinney will be an interesting one as well as the battle of the point guards Anthony Tucker and Akeem Scott. You can guarantee that either one of these players will have a high-scoring output.
Can the Heat take down another top team or will Kung Fu remain perfect?
