The Mono Vampire Basketball Club will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of ASEAN Basketball League Season 10 when they host Hong Kong Eastern on Sunday at Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand, 3 PM local time (GMT +7).
After winning their first three games, Mono Vampire fell at the hands of San Miguel Alab Pilipinas, 73-96. Despite the defeat, Thailand still leads the standings with a 3-1 record. It was the second meeting between the two squads and the Philippines was able to avenge its opening game loss.
Mike Singletary, who is in his third season with Thailand, scored 17 points in a losing effort versus Alab. Through four games, Singletary is averaging 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists as the leading man for Mono. Unfortunately, Thailand’s two other World Imports have not been productive. Guard Preston Knowles is struggling with 8.0 points on 35 percent shooting and 3.7 rebounds while big man Ryan Watkins is only producing 9.2 points, 10.5 rebounds.
Fortunately for Mono Vampire, Tyler Lamb has been superb as the team’s super sixth man. The ABL veteran is putting up close to 19 points while shooting a staggering 39 percent from beyond the arc. Singletary and Lamb’s scoring will be critical against a Hong Kong team that’s hungry for victory.
Eastern has a 0-2 record after losses against Macau Black Bears and Taipei Fubon Braves. Trey Kell has been the bright spot for Hong Kong, producing a total of 69 points in his first two games in the league. The 6-foot-4 forward has proven to be a versatile scorer, putting points on the scoreboard both from the perimeter and on the inside.
Fellow Hong Kong reinforcement Michael Holyfield is coming off a bounce-back performance after a quiet season debut. After tallying just eight points and six rebounds versus the Black Bears, he put 16 points and 15 boards against the Fubon Braves.
Eastern will also be looking to incorporate new World Import Brandon Costner. Costner is a 6-foot-9 power forward who went undrafted in the 2009 NBA draft. He has been all over the globe, with stints in the NBA G-League, Belgian, France, China, Puerto Rico, Lebanon, and Japan.
Mono Vampire will aim for their fourth win of the season while Eastern are merely hoping to finally get on the win column.
