The Mono Vampire Basketball Club aim for their third straight win when they take on the Singapore Slingers on Wednesday at Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
Mono Vampire continues its hold on top of the team standings with an impressive 11-4 record. The Thailand squad has won four of its last five games, including wins over the Saigon Heat and Taipei Fubon Braves.
Michael Singletary dropped 31 points to lead Mono Vampire past the Braves last Saturday, 90-86, in overtime. The longtime Thailand reinforcement was two points shy of his season-high. Singletary is currently averaging fewer points this season at 22.5 compared to 24.1 last year, but he is shooting at a higher clip at 46 percent.
Thailand was able to get its 11th win of the season despite the absence of Preston Knowles, who was nursing a mild ankle injury. Fortunately, Freddie Lish stepped up big for Mono. He was effective in 36 minutes of action, filling up the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, and six assists while failing to commit a single turnover.
The Slingers, on the other hand, currently hold a 7-7 record fresh off a win over the Kuala Lumpur Dragons. Even though they got the narrow 88-87 overtime victory, the Dragons were able to win the annual Straights Cup between the two teams.
Reigning MVP Xavier Alexander put his imprint in the Slingers’ win over the Dragons with a staggering line of 27 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. It was his fourth triple-double of the season and 12th of his career.
The Slingers got usual contributions from Marcus Elliott who had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Anthony McClain as the big man had a 14-point, 17-rebound, 7-block performance. However, they also received a noteworthy outing from Delvin Goh. The ABL veteran continues to have a career year as he normed 15 points and 10 boards versus Malaysia – his fourth double-double of the season.
Mono’s high-powered offense will be tested against the defensive-oriented Slingers. The Slingers hold opponents to 80.2 points per game, which is good for second in the league behind the Dragons. Their defense will have their hands full against Singletary, Lamb, and the rest of Mono Vampire.
Singapore is also the best rebounding team with 42.7 per game. Mono loves to run and put points on the board quickly thus controlling the glass will be critical in its matchup against the Slingers.
Mono Vampire looks to continue its winning ways when they go up against the Slingers at 6 PM local time (GMT +7).
