The Taipei Fubon Braves are on the hunt for another victory, and they’re looking to extend the misery of the Macau Wolf Warriors in the ASEAN Basketball League action.
Gametime is set for 8:00 PM GMT +8 at the Zhongshan Shaxi Gymnasium, China.
Currently, in second place with 4 wins and 1 loss and fresh from a win versus the Formosa Dreamers in the first-ever Taiwan Tussle, the Braves continue to turn heads in their first season in the ABL. They’ve wasted no time in showing that they’re a force to be reckoned with, as a stellar crop of World Imports led by OJ Mayo and a rock-solid local crew featuring star Joseph Lin have provided ample support.
The Braves took the first game against their neighbors in Taiwan, winning 90-81. They achieved this by being more efficient from the field, shooting 56% from the field compared to only 38% for their opponents. They also had 46 points in the paint, utilizing Sim Bhullar and Charles Garcia to great use.
The Braves got another rock-solid performance from World Import OJ Mayo, as he filled the box score with 15 points and 3 assists. He also provided outside shooting to complement the bigs as he shot three of five from beyond the arc.
The Wolf Warriors, on the other hand, were a few key baskets and defensive stops away from registering its first win of the season. The Wolf Warriors were up by 5 points in the 4th quarter, but a 19-4 run by the Dragons completely turned the game around. Once again the Wolf Warriors went silent down the stretch, unable to stop Amir Bell and Simeon Lipechev from taking control down the stretch. As a result, the Wolf Warriors lost once again, 90-83
Though the Wolf Warriors still struggled and fell to their third loss, World Import Julian Boyd did everything he could to prevent that from happening. With 33 points and 13 rebounds, he is showing that he’s one of the best imports this season.
His teammate Cai Chen has equally been impressive. One of the most eagerly anticipated local players to watch this season, the big man of the Wolf Warriors is showing that he’s ready for even more this season. He’s averaging 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 blocks, and has looked even more dynamic on offense this season.
However, he’ll need more help from his teammates, particularly from World Import Douglas Herring. His 27 points and 7 assists were instrumental in helping the Wolf Warriors keep in step with the Dragons, but he suffered a painful-looking injury in the 4th quarter, that prevented him from finishing the game. He was in a great position to help deliver the first win to the Wolf Warriors, unfortunately, it was not the ending he or the team wanted.
The Wolf Warriors are on the prowl to end their losing skid, while the Braves are looking to stay on the winning track. Find out which squad will come out on top in this big-time ABL battle.
