The Macau Black Bears begin life without Anthony Tucker for the remainder of the elimination round, as they take on the Westports Malaysia Dragons, desperate for a win to preserve their spot in the Playoffs.
The Black Bears lost their World MVP Anthony Tucker to a horrific foot injury that was classified as a Jones Fracture, which will keep him out of action for 4-6 weeks. Macau will have to work double duty in order to make up for Tucker’s absence, and it will rely on the duo of Mikh McKinney and Ryan Watkins to push forward, as the Black Bears jockey for position.
Only 24 hours after falling to the Formosa Dreamers, the Black Bears had an opportunity to get some revenge with a quick turnaround in their rematch. The Black Bears were in good position before the tragic injury to Tucker, that left them without enough to take down their opponents. as a result, they suffered another 10 point loss, 94-84.
Despite the absence of Anthony Tucker for majority of the battle against the Formosa Dreamers, the Black Bears were in it because of the brilliant performance of Mikh McKinney, who tallied a stellar 42 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Without his running mate, McKinney will need to do even more to keep the Black Bears above water. Will he be able to deliver?
It’s a similar situation for the Dragons, as they find themselves on the outside of the playoff race, after being overtaken by Mono Vampire Basketball Club in the win column. The recent loss of the Dragons to the BTN CLS Knights coupled with a victory by Mono Vampire Basketball Club against Hong Kong Eastern helped push the Thai-based squad forward in the standings in the 8th seed. With the Dragons now desperate to grab a win, can they take advantage of a Black Bears squad that needs to adjust to the absence of Tucker?
It was a must-win for the Dragons, but unfortunately they were unable to take care of business against the BTN CLS Knights. Chris Everlsey did his best to tow the Dragons with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals, but it wasn’t enough to lead his team to a win.
The Dragons were in a tight ballgame against the BTN CLS Knights, but a game breaking 9-0 by the Knights broke open a tight game, and the Dragons scored their first field goal of the 4th quarter in the three minute mark. As a result, the Dragons fell to another loss, and out of the playoff race.
