The Macau Bears and Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team are aiming for a second straight victory, as they tangle in ABL action. With a 12-9 record, Hong Kong is currently 5th place in the standings, coming from a big victory against San Miguel Alab Pilipinas.
The Black Bears on the other hand also emerged victorious, dumping the Westports Malaysia to get back on the winning track. They currently stand in 6th place with an 8-7 card.
Though the Black Bears have gone through peaks and valleys this season, they’re still looking like a team that will dangerous come playoff time. They took care of business against the Westports Malaysia Dragons via the 97-86 win, as they took care of the ball and was able to get in transition with 17 fastbreak points compared to 10 for the Dragons.
A red hot Mikh McKinney was able to tow the Black Bears to a win over the Dragons. McKinney’s versatility was on full display, as he powered the team to 35 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Last year’s Heritage MVP has been as good as ever this season.
Though it took awhile to get rid of the pesky defending champs, Hong Kong still took care of business with an 88-83 win over San Miguel Alab Pilipinas. PJ Ramos skipped the game because of food poisoning, thus Hong Kong lorded it over their opponents on the rebounding end, and second chance points as well.
Michael Holyfield made an impressive ABL debut repacing O’Darien Bassett in the Hong Kong lineup, as he feasted on Alab with 19 points and 20 rebounds. He looks poised to form a monstrous twin towers lineup with Deguara in the middle, which means the Black Bears have to find a negate this.
With no PJ Ramos in the middle, Sam Deguara was absolutely unstoppable, with a double-double performance of 18 points, 31 rebounds and adding a whopping 8 blocks as well. Deguara was an absolute matchup nightmare, especially for a team missing its big man.
The newly formed twin towers of Hong Kong will look to put Hong Kong over the top, while Macau’s MVP-caliber guards are aiming to leave them high and dry. Which team will have the right strategy?
