The Singapore Slingers and Hong Kong Eastern lock horns for the first time this season, in what could be an emotional return for World Import Marcus Elliott to the Southorn Stadium, the stomping grounds of all his great moments in the ASEAN Basketball League. The teams take to the court at 8 PM GMT +8.
Elliott played 3 seasons with Hong Kong Eastern and found a lot of success with the squad. They won the title in 2017, which was also the same year that he won World MVP in one of the best single-season runs in ABL history. But now he’s with the Slingers, and his new team is raring to build on a big win over the Saigon Heat. He warmed up for the battle with a brilliant scoring performance of 29 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists against the Saigon Heat.
The Slingers took out their frustrations of an up and down season on a helpless Saigon Heat squad, winning by a whopping 34 points, 101-67. The Slingers were hardly challenged, as Marcus Elliott and Anthony McClain were dominant at the OCBC Arena.
Xavier Alexander’s elite numbers of 20.3 points, 9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists continue to impress in another rock-solid season for the Slingers. There have been some adjustments needed playing with a ball-dominant player in Marcus Elliott, but the great players will able be able to figure it out.
Hong Kong Eastern fell to their second straight loss, getting torched by the Macau Black Bears 97-80. Hong Kong Eastern’s offense deserted them in the match, with only their free throws keeping them in the contest. After a strong surge in the arrival of Brandis Raley-Ross, they’ve come back down to earth.
While Raley-Ross continues to churn out good numbers, it remains to be seen if the rest of his squad can keep up. He churned out 25 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists against the Macau Black Bears in the loss. As the lead guard of Hong Kong Eastern, the team will need him to elevate his game even further.
The missing piece for Hong Kong Eastern was undoubtedly Michael Holyfield, as he had a slow start due to foul trouble, but never recovered. He was only able to score 6 points on only four field-goal attempts in 26 minutes of action.
