The Macau Black Bears and Hong Kong Eastern have split the result of their first two games and now they will break the tie as they face off at the Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai. In their first meeting, the Black Bears came away with a huge victory but Hong Kong Eastern responded with an even more dominant win, which just goes to show that these two teams are pretty evenly matched and that result is just based on who gets going offensively.
Hong Kong Eastern is currently sitting at the fifth spot with 10 wins against eight losses while the Black Bears are right behind them with a 7-6 win-loss tally. With both teams barely over .500, they need to make a move midway through the elimination round as they’ll need to lock up a top-four spot to get home-court advantage in the playoffs.
In their last game, Hong Kong Eastern picked up an important win against the Saigon Heat, a team above them in the standings. The Heat had more firepower from the outside so the former ABL champions focused on their inside scoring.
Sam Deguara had one of his better games this season with 23 points and 17 rebounds, barely missing from the field at an 11 of 14 clip. The big man will have a solid foe to contend with in Ryan Watkins so this will be a very interesting matchup.
Among the Hong Kong locals, it has been Chan Siu Wing who’s been making a lot of noise. He slowed down a little bit in their loss to San Miguel Alab Pilipinas but he bounced back with another huge game against the Heat.
The Black Bears, on the other end, fell on the losing end of a firefight against the Formosa Dreamers. It was a tightly contested game with both teams scoring well over 100 points but the interior scoring of Formosa proved to be the difference in the game.
Anthony Tucker did not have his usual scoring game so he adjusted and focused on setting up his teammates. He proved to be a great playmaker as he finished with 20 assists.
Macau also got solid contributions from a couple of locals in their losing effort as Derek King and Liu Zihao combined for 41 points. Their contributions will be necessary once again versus Hong Kong Eastern.
