The Formosa Dreamers and Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team aim to make it two in a row in the new ASEAN Basketball League, as they battle inside the Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Game time is set for 8PM local time.
Both teams won their debut games in the ABL season, as Hong Kong made easy work of the Wolf Warriors, and the Dreamers seal the victory over the Singapore Slingers. The reloaded Hong Kong Eastern leaned on their trio of talented World Imports, as well as a relentless blitzing defense that forced the Wolf Warriors into 20 turnovers.
Hong Kong Eastern stamped its class on the newbies in the ABL, demolishing the Wolf Warriors by 32 points in their opening day game, 107-75. Key for Hong Kong was their pressing defense that forced the Wolf Warriors into turnovers. Behind Marcus Elliott setting the tone early, the team was also unselfish, finishing with 25 dimes compared to the Wolf Warriors’ 7.
Sam Deguara was a beast in his first game with his new squad. Moving on from Mono Vampire Basketball Club to join Hong Kong this season, Deguara showed that he’s still a gamechanger against any squad by dominating the Warriors frontline with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists in 23 minutes of action.
New World Import Eric Ferguson also had an impressive ABL debut, as he notched 26 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals for Hong Kong.
The Dreamers on the other hand looked vastly improved in their first game of the season, compared to last year’s struggles. Though they struggled to keep the Slingers at bay, the Dreamers still took care of business courtesy of a clutch shot from new World Import William Artino to win 77-73.
The Formosa Dreamers showed that this season could be different compared to last year, as they picked up the first win of the season over the last year’s playoff squad the Singapore Slingers. The Taiwan-based squad looked highly improved, as their World Imports led by Tevin Glass showed that the Dreamers have much more Firepower this season. Glass had a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, which was instrumental for sealing the victory.
William Artino sealed the deal for the Dreamers, helping the Dreamers rise to the victory after the Slingers had regained the lead. Artino also provided a defensive presence in a low scoring game, with a full statline of 16 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals and 3b locks. Artino will have his hands full against Deguara, which should pose a big challenge for the Dreamers.
Getting a taste of victory early, Hong Kong and Formosa will be hungry for more. Which squad can rise to the top of the standings with a second victory early in the ABL?
