After a long break from ABL action, the Formosa Dreamers plunge back into action against the Saigon Heat, in a matchup of two teams jockeying for playoff position. Both teams begin their match 3PM local time in the Changhua County Stadium in Changhua City, Taiwan.
Currently at 10-5 in the standings, the Dreamers trail only San Miguel Alab Pilipinas. The Heat on the other hand are facing a rough patch, losers of four straight games to drop to 5th place in the standings. With a 10-8 card, the Heat have a great chance to rise higher by ending the Dreamers’ two game winning run.
It was a high scoring shootout between the Dreamers and the Black Bears. However Formosa entered the fourth quarter with a 10 point head, and didn’t look back. Clutch baskets from Will Artino and Tevin Glass helped the Dreamers win the thriller, 122-116. Both teams shot above 50% from the field, but it was the home squad that made the big shots down the stretch.
Malcolm Miller led the charge for the Dreamers in their victory against the Black Bears. He came so close to a triple double, with 34 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. He has been instrumental in the Dreamers’ turnaround this season, and one of its most consistent players.
The Heat simply had no answer for the Slingers’ defense in the first half, falling behind by 22 points because of a disastrous second quarter that saw them only score 5 points the entire period. Though they were able to make a game of it in the second half and even seize the lead in the fourth quarter, they still fell short with a 76-70 loss.
In a defensive slugfest, Trevon Hughes was still able to find a way to finish with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. However Hughes didn’t get adequate from his teammates, which led to them falling short down the stretch. Look for Hughes to fight back and try to end the losing skid of the Heat.
Wil Saigon be able to capitalize on a rusty Dreamers squad, or will the Taiwan-based squad prolong the agony of the Heat?
