The Macau Black Bears are out to repeat with another victory over the Chinese Taipei Formosa Dreamers, in basketball action in the 10th season of the ASEAN Basketball League.
This battle tips off on Sunday, December 8, at 3:00 PM GMT+8 at the Changhua County Stadium in Taiwan.
It has been a rough start for the Dreamers, losers of their first three matches in the season. The team finished on top of the elimination round last season, finishing with a sterling record of 19-7. However already mired at the bottom with an 0-3 card, their winless start is something they want to address immediately. They were unable to end their skid in their last match, falling to the Fubon Braves, 91-85.
It was known as the “Taiwan Tussle,” as the two teams based in the nation in the Braves and Dreamers competed for the first time this season. However, despite repeated comeback attempts, the Dreamers couldn’t overcome the Braves, who led by as many as 26 points in this contest. In the second and third quarters, Fubon outscored Formosa 45-26, and that proved to be a bridge too far.
World Import Marcus Keene would lead the way for the Dreamers, as he tallied 22 points while also dishing 8 assists, while teammate Jerran Young had 17 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in the loss.
The Black Bears, on the other hand, are back in action after a week off, and fresh from defeating the Dreamers last December 1, 91-85. With a bounce-back performance from Mikh McKinney as the catalyst, the Black Bears were able to take their third win of the season, and stake their claim as one of the teams to watch out for this season.
The Dreamers were in prime position to take down their opponents, as they established a lead of 17 points at one point. However, a big 17-2 run in the fourth quarter completely turned the tied and shocked the Dreamers and their faithful on the home floor. And when the smoke cleared it was the Black Bears that emerged with the win.
World Import Mikh McKinney led the charge for the Black Bears. A foul-plagued McKinney proved to be shockingly ineffective against the league-leading Fubon Braves in their last game, but he made up for it with another MVP performance from McKinney. His 28 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists helped his team assert its mastery over the opponent.
Desperation is starting to creep in for the Dreamers, while the Black Bears are looking to extend their nightmare with a repeat victory. Which squad will come out on top?
