The Formosa Dreamers had a rough home debut as they surrendered a 78-61 defeat at the hands of the visiting Tanduay Alab Pilipinas on Saturday night at the Changhua Stadium in Changhua City.
They’ll have a chance to redeem themselves however as they play host once again to the defending champions Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team on Sunday.
Against Alab, Lenny Daniel was the lone bright spot for the Dreamers as his teammates struggled from the field. Daniel tallied 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He himself was only 5-for-14 but his aggressiveness earned him 13 trips to the foul line wherein he made 8. Fellow World Import Jaleel Cousins had a forgetful 10-point outing.
As a team, Formosa shot only 28 percent from the floor as they struggled all-game long shooting the basketball. They were also outhustled in the rebounding department, 62-37.
They surrendered a lead as high as 19 points in a forgetful home debut. Even though they tried valiantly to mount a comeback, their poor shooting led to their demise.
The Dreamers will have their hands full once again when Hong Kong Eastern comes knocking at their door step. The defending champs continue their rampant run at the start of the season as they now boast a league-best 5-0 record.
Hong Kong Eastern’s latest victim was Tanduay Alab Pilipinas wherein Tyler Lamb was stupendous as he finished with a career-high 32 points on 12-for-21 from the field to go along with five three pointers. It was Lamb’s second straight 30-point performance.
Marcus Elliott had an all-around effort of 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, but the reigning World MVP also had 7 turnovers. Fortunately, Christian Standhardinger provided a steady hand with a double-double performance of 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. He also knocked down two huge triples in the fourth period to seal the win versus Alab.
Hong Kong hopes to keep their undefeated streak alive while the Dreamers will try to play spoilers on their home floor.
