It’s a game between the hottest team in the league against the team that has the longest active losing skid as the resurgent Mono Vampire take in the BTN CLS Knights Indonesia in Surabaya.
It will be the fourth and last meeting between these two teams in the elimination round. The first two went on the way of the Knights but Mono Vampire finally got a win early this month and they are hoping to level the series and continue their streak.
After a flat start to the season, the team from Thailand is now warming up as they have won their last three matches and are slowly gaining on the Westports Malaysia Dragons for the eighth spot.
The last game of Mono Vampire was their win against the Knights. In that game, the Thai squad dictated the tempo from the first quarter and extended their lead in the second. BTN CLS played better in the second half but their deficit was already too big to get back from.
Mono Vampire showed their grit and hunger by outworking the Knights off the boards en route to a 19 to 6 advantage in the second-chance points department.
BTN CLS, on the other end, suffered a tough loss against the Dragons in Kuala Lumpur. The Knights were up by two points heading into the fourth quarter but they could not put the clamps on Chris Eversley in the winning moments.
Maxie Esho became the 19th player in ABL history to reach 1,000 points in their last game but he would have surely traded this individual feat for a win. Still, Esho has been the leader for the Knights and it is up to him to try and get them back to their winning ways.
Another player who needs to break out from a funk is Wong Wei Long. The guard was scorching hot in their winning streak but has fizzled out in their last three games. He will have to find a way to chip in threes and help in setting up his teammates.
For Mono Vampire, they’ll still bank on Mike Singletary who has been the only constant for them ever since the start of the season. Imports came and went but Singletary still provided the same effort for the team as he was finally rewarded with the Player of the Week honors because of their streak.
Singletary has had a lot of help though as Mono Vampire looks like a different team altogether after the addition of Romeo Travis and Tyler Lamb. The two have injected much-needed adrenaline to their cause as they go for a late playoff push.
