A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.
Co-Founder Cheng-Chung Chang brought up the John Lennon quote when asked about the symbolism behind the Taiwanese ASEAN Basketball League expansion team, the Formosa Dreamers.
“As Dreamers, we dream and pursue together with vision,” Chang says. “We expect to bring a brand new momentum to Taiwanese basketball.”
“We dream, therefore we are.”
The Formosa Dreamers are about to be the second Taiwanese team to join the ABL after the expansion to the East Asia last season.
“The ASEAN Basketball League is a well-organized professional basketball league,” Chang says of his impression on the league. “It is very exciting to be participating. We look forward to compete with the most excellent players from different regions.”
In a country that is as crazy about basketball as Taiwan, there are many people who are incredibly passionate about the sport. People like Chang himself. The dream of building up a basketball team to further promote basketball in Taiwan brought five individuals together. Their dream eventually became a reality with the Formosa Dreamers joining the ABL.
Based in Taiwan, the Dreamers were founded by Cheng-Chung Chang, Chris Hsu, Jimmy Chang, Blackie Chen and Jonathan Han who are all successful elites in diverse industries. Despite the differences in their professions, they share similar beliefs and passion in basketball.
“Together we wish to bring Formosa Dreamers to compete in the ASEAN Basketball League to represent Taiwan.” Chang says.
“The purpose of founding a professional basketball team, us five shareholders of the Formosa Dreamers have common goals. We hope joining the ABL can bring changes to Taiwanese basketball. Meanwhile, we also hope that Taiwanese fans will support us and be more interested about Taiwanese basketball.”
The Formosa Dreamers wish to put aside language barriers and promote Taiwan to the world through basketball. They wish to achieve the dreams of Taiwanese “basketballholics”.
Despite being a new team in the league, the Dreamers aren’t looking to be pushovers, especially when they will play in front of their fans at Changhua Stadium in Changhua City.
“We are looking forward to putting on an entertaining show for fans,” Chang says.
“The Formosa Dreamers are preparing and practicing with great efforts for our first ABL season. Our players have been tuning into the best physical strength and mental strength to give fans impressive and outstanding games.”
The Formosa Dreamers will be playing their first ABL game on November 18th visiting the CLS Knights Indonesia at 7:00 PM (GMT +7) and will be playing their first home game at Changhua Stadium against Alab Pilipinas on December 16th at 3:00 PM.
