The Thai swingman Attaporn Lertmalaiporn built an impressive basketball résumé eligible to be included in the Final 21 nominees for ABL’s Top 10 Player of All-Time. With accolades such as the ABL Season MVP award, Finals MVP honors, and two championships, he established a remarkable basketball career during his five-season stay in the ABL.
He first appeared in the ABL scene in its inaugural season, playing for the Thailand Tigers. With his combination of striking athleticism and smooth offensive game, Attaporn became the core player for the Tigers. His season performance was worthy enough to be hailed as ABL’s first season MVP. Although his heroic effort to lead the Tigers to the very first ABL Playoffs was out of reach, the team still entrusted him to be their integral player in hopes of their pursuit of success.
In the 2010–2011 season, the revamped Attaporn and Chang Thailand Slammers ruled the ABL as the franchise made its very first Playoffs appearance—along with a season-best 11–4 record. Attaporn never wasted the opportunity as he brought with him his MVP self to secure a ticket to the ABL Finals against the reigning champions, AirAsia Philippine Patriots. Within two games, they swept the Patriots due to a valiant Finals effort from Attaporn—winning not only his first ABL championship but also the Finals MVP honor.
He continued his ABL career after his momentous runs—serving as a mentor and providing veteran presence with the teams he played in. In 2014, he became an important figure for the Hi-Tech Bangkok City as Thailand captured another ABL championship.
Attaporn strengthened the basketball roots in his home country of Thailand. Serving as one of the faces of Thailand basketball, he left an impact in the ABL as one of the beloved frenetic forwards since the league’s establishment. In the upcoming tenth season of the ABL, it is suitable to celebrate its existence by reliving the ABL career of the first-ever ABL MVP.
