The Formosa Dreamers banked on a big second quarter surge to outlast the Westports Malaysia Dragons for an 82-76 win at the Changhua County Stadium in Changhua City, Taiwan.
Bannered by a superb performance from its trio of world imports, the Dreamers outscored the Dragons 28-17 in the second quarter, to take a 46-31 lead into the half.
A triple from Malcolm Miller at the 8:10 mark of the third period exacerbated things for the Dragons, as the lead ballooned to 20 points, 51-31. However the Dragons would go on a 14-4 run to close out the quarter, trimming the deficit to single digits, 64-55 heading into the final frame.
The Dragons turned on the pressure against the Dreamers, as a triple from Nnanna Egwu cut the lead to only 4 points with 2:20 remaining in the game. But the home squad would prove to be steady down the stretch from the freethrow line, as Tevin Glass, Kenny Chien and Malcolm Miller took turns hitting from the charity stripe to keep the Dragons at bay and pull out the victory.
Glass paced the Dreamers with an all-around performance of 28 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Miller chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds, while Will Artino did a little bit of everything with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Dragons were paced by Winston Shepard’s near triple-double of 18 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists, while Chris Eversley and Nnanna Egwu added 17 and 14 points respectively.
The victory keeps the Dreamers at second place with a 11-6 card, while the Dragons fail to capitalize on the loss of Mono Vampire to the BTN CLS Knights to gain separation. However they remain in 8th place with a 6-10 slate.
