In their first game at home, the Formosa Dreamers wowed a packed Changhua County Stadium with an 81-71 victory against Hong Kong Eastern, Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in the ninth season of the ASEAN Basketball League.
Tevin Glass spear-headed the attack of the Dreamers with 26 points on an efficient 7 of 13 shooting from the field while also collecting 17 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Glass fellow imports did not shooting well from the field as Will Artino and Malcolm Miller only had a combined 28 points on 11 of 36 shooting but their defense was good enough ensure the victory.
After a tight first quarter which saw the home team only leading by a single point, 24-23, their defense showed its teeth in the second period when Formosa limited Hong Kong Eastern to only 10 points. The Dreamers started the second with an 11-0 run bookended by a triple from Tien Lei and a layup from Artino to lead 35-23. Marcus Elliott gave Hong Kong Eastern its first basket with a three-ball halfway through the second period. Aside from Elliott, only Eric Ferguson and Lau Tsz Lai scored in the quarter for the visiting team.
Hong Kong Eastern tried to make a move midway through the final period when they cut their deficit down to 10 points, 71-61, but Lee Hsueh Lin canned his only basket of the game, which was a three point shot that was quickly followed by a basket from Artino to build a more comfortable 15-point edge. The Dreamers took care of their free throws from late in the fourth quarter to keep Hong Kong Eastern at bay.
Elliott led Hong Kong Eastern with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists but committed seven turnovers in the game. His fellow imports finished with double-doubles as Ferguson had 15 points and 10 rebounds while Sam Deguara had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
With the win, Formosa raises its record to five wins to start their second ABL season. Hong Kong Eastern drops to three wins against four losses, with all of their victories coming at the expense of the winless Wolf Warriors.
