The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) will kick off its 2016-2017 season on November 25, featuring the defending champions Westports Malaysia Dragons and the Singapore Slingers in a Finals rematch.
Now on its seventh season, the league will showcase three new teams – Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions (Hong Kong), Kaohsiung Truth (Taiwan), and Alab Pilipinas (Philippines). Returning alongside the Slingers and Dragons are the Saigon Heat.
Each of the six teams will face each other four times during the three-month elimination round. The top four squads with the best record will then enter the playoffs.
Since winning the ABL championship earlier this year, Malaysia has revamped their roster with the signing of Thai-American Freddie Goldstein, and Marcus Melvin as their World Import. They also have a new coach in Chris Thomas, who aims to retain the title in Malaysia.
Singapore and Malaysia played in a thrilling, all-out, five-game series with the Dragons edging their rival at home. The Slingers recently resigned their two World Imports, Xavier Alexander and Justin Howard, in the hopes of finally winning a title for the Lion City.
The Slingers and Dragons clash on November 25, 8:00PM, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
