The Westports Malaysia Dragons have just made significant changes in their lineup.
The Dragons have replaced World Imports AJ West and Marcus Marshall and have relocated Heritage Import Patrick Cabahug to their inactive list.
The World Imports will be replaced by Bryan Davis and Chris Eversley, while Filipino-American Jawhar Purdy will be taking the Heritage Import slot.
Currently riding a six-game losing streak, the Dragons are looking for a way to get out of their slump and make one last push towards the playoffs.
Marshall set an ABL scoring record with 60 points in his very first game with the Dragons. Unfortunately, the explosive scorer has been seeing limited minutes due to a nagging injury. His scoring average has dipped significantly making him a liability more than asset.
West meanwhile averaged with 16.2 points and 13.4 rebounds in the 10 games he suited up for the Dragons. He also ended up as the league’s number one offensive rebounder with 8.9 a game.
Replacing West and Marshall will be Davis and Eversley. 6-foot-9 Davis is a hulking big man fresh from his stint with Taiwan Beer at the Super Basketball League in Taiwan. The 31-year-old is also a two-time champion of the National Basketball League in New Zealand.
Eversley is actually a returnee in the ABL and played for the Dragons back in 2014. Since then, he has seen action in Belgium and Germany. In his ABL debut against Thailand’s HiTech Bangkok City, the young forward posted 31 points. He was significant member of that 2014 Dragons team that went to the ABL Finals that season.
Last but not the least, Jawhar Purdy was a former PBA Draft Pick and had meaningful games in the PBA Developmental League. Purdy recently played in Thailand before joining the Dragons.
Joshua Munzon is the lone import left untouched after the recent transactions. Munzon is currently averaging a career-best 22.1 points a game and 8.7 rebounds. He also remains a threat on the defensive end with 2.6 steals per outing.
With seven games left on their schedule, the Dragons hope that their additions will make an immediate impact.
