ABL Champions Douglas Herring and Steven Thomas have signed with the Wolf Warriors for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.
The China-based Wolf Warriors joined the ASEAN Basketball League as an expansion team during the 2018-2019 season. The Wolf Warriors’ maiden season was a tough one as they would only be able to garner two victories.
However, with their new signings, it is evident that the team is hoping to contend for a championship this upcoming campaign.
Steven Thomas is a 5-year ABL veteran, who has won championships in 2012 and 2014. The 6’8″ forward/center was recently included in the Final 21 nominees for the ABL’s Top 10 Players of All-Time.
Thomas was named the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year and currently has the record for Most Career Rebounds. He has also recorded 1464 career points while suiting up for the Philippine Patriots, Indonesia Warriors, and Hi-Tech Bangkok City in the ABL.
On the other hand, Doug Herring helped lead the CLS Knights Indonesia to the ABL title last season. The 6’3″ point guard first joined the team as a midseason import replacement.
Herring averaged 17.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game for the Knights last season while proving to not only be a high-level playmaker on offense but a defensive stopper as well.
The two Americans will join 6’7″ forward Julian Boyd to complete the Wolf Warriors’ cast of imports for the 2019-2020 ABL season.
The Wolf Warriors will be led by Head Coach John Todd Purves. Purves also coached the Indonesia Warriors for two seasons in 2013 and 2014, which led to him winning Coach of the Year and an ABL title.
