MANILA - Caelan Tiongson quickly made a name for himself with his unlimited effort on the court and has now signed on with Alab Pilipinas for his second season in the ASEAN Basketball League.
The bruising forward and defensive extraordinaire played for Chong Son Kung Fu (now Macau Black Bears) last season as a key member of the team that had the best record of the regular season. Tiongson averaged 12.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assosts in the regular season, spending most of his time on the court defending the opposing team’s best offensive players.
Tiongson suffered a concussion in Game 1 of Semifinals matchup against Mono Vampire which kept him from playing in Game 2. He had to sit and watch as his team lost at the last second and were eliminated from the Playoffs.
Alab Pilipinas were quick to pick up Tiongson and add him to the team as the team’s social media accounts posted early in July. Caelan Tiongson is the first announced official offseason signing for the defending champions heading into the 2018-2019 season.
“Since Caelan already played in the ABL, I’m sure he’ll be a big addition to Alab.” General Manager Charlie Dy said of the signing.
“I think playing for the best basketball fans in the world is going to bring the best basketball out of me personally,” Tiongson says. “I’m very excited.”
San Miguel Alab Pilipinas won the 2017-2018 ASEAN Basketball League title last season led by Local MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr, Co-Defensive Player of the Year Renaldo Balkman, star import Justin Brownlee, and a well balanced roster from top to bottom. The team has not announced any re-signings so far though most of the players are playing in the local MPBL.
