Playing in Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand for the first time since the 2017-2018 ABL finals, San Miguel Alab Pilipinas flashed their championship form as they overwhelmed the Mono Vampire Basketball Club, 78-59, Saturday night.
With the win, Alab have swept their season series against Mono. Moreover, they’ve won three straight games and continue to pace the league with a 16-3 record as Mono slide to 5-14.
Renaldo Balkman had a game-high 31 points on efficient 14-for-23 shooting while adding six rebounds and four steals. Fellow World Import PJ Ramos put up a solid performance as he tallied 16 points, 19 rebounds, and seven assists.
Alab also got significant contributions off the bench. Lawrence Domingo and Paolo Javelona combined for 16 points and guard Josh Urbiztondo was able to nab seven rebounds.
The defending champions created separation in the third quarter, as their advantage ballooned to 15 points. They would continue to pour it on and enjoy a lead as high as 20 points in the lopsided contest, punctuated by a jam from PJ Ramos early in the fourth period.
Malcolm White and Michael Singletary had 17 points apiece for Mono. Unfortunately, they were without Romeo Travis who was dealing with a knee injury.
Alab shot a blistering 47 percent from the field while limiting their opponent to just 32 percent. They also owned the rebounding battle, 55-39, and once again exhibited precise passing with 25 assists.
The two teams will be back in action on February 27. The Philippine squad travels to Macau to face the Black Bears to try to extend their winning streak to four games. As for Mono Vampire, they’ll try to end their two-game skid when they go up against the Westports Malaysia Dragons at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
