The Mono Vampire Basketball Club have no time to rest on their laurels.
After beating the BTN CLS Knights Indonesia in Game 2, 79-71, the series shifts back to Surabaya for a winner-take-all Game 3. Michael Singletary, one of the players that can surely dictate the outcome of the series, knows that his team has to bring its A-game to come out victorious.
“We have to be better. We’re going to be a lot better to win in Game 3,” Singletary said.
Singletary himself has struggled throughout this series and he knows that he’s capable of producing more for his squad. In the Game 1 loss, he managed just nine points on 2-for-10 shooting. It was more of the same in the early parts of Game 2, failing to hit a field goal in the first two quarters. He found his mark late and ended up with 25 points. Despite his poor shooting, he’s not pushing the panic button.
“I think it’s just within the flow of the game,” he said on finding his shot. “We got so many guys on this team that are so talented. There’s no reason for me to force anything. We get good shots whenever we want. We have to continue to do that.”
Singletary and Mono Vampire also have a daunting task in winning at GOR Kertajaya in Surabaya – something they haven’t done this season in three tries. They lost twice during the regular season and in the first game of this series.
We’re not gonna give up. We’re gonna have guys out there, going out and compete,” the veteran implored. “We know how hard it is to win in Indonesia.”
“We’re up for the challenge. We’re gonna give everything we have to get that win and try to get that last final spot,” he added.
Mono Vampire may be the eighth seed but they are no strangers to a grueling playoff series. A number of players from the squad competed in last year’s ABL Finals against San Miguel Alab Pilipinas. That experience will come in handy in the sudden death match against the Knights.
“Luckily we got a lot of veterans in our team. A lot of the guys that are here from last year know exactly what it takes to get to the Finals and to even get to a chance to win it,” Singletary said. “It’s just going to be about effort and giving everything we got. It’s gonna be tough, but we got the guys to be able to do it.”
